Math Question.. standard form?

I have to find the equation of a line and the slope is -3/2 and y intercept is 3

so y = -3/2x + 3

how would I put that into standard form? (i think it's ax+by=c.)

x = 6/5

y= 6/5

thanks

Math Question.. standard form?
The standard form equation for a line is

y = mx + b. Where m is the slope and b the y intercept.

y = (-3/2)x + 3 is already the standard form of the equation. Dont worry about the fact that -3/2 is a negative fraction. it simply says that m = -3/2 which is true.

you can multiply throughout by 2 to get rid of the fraction, and rearrange to put the equation in the form ax+by=c but that IS NOT the standard form of the equation for a line.
Reply:It is the standard form... Report It

Reply:3x+2y=6

proof

3x+2y=6

-3x -3x

2y=-3x divid both sides by 2

y=6-3x/2

y=-3x/2+3
Reply:Muultiply y = -3/2x + 3 by 2. That is 2y = -3x + 6.Move the 3x to the other side of the equal. That is 3x+2y=6.
Reply:what's that x and y thing?

Anyways, to put it in standard form you should just multiply everything by 2 to get rid of that denominator and move it around so it would be 3x + 2y = 3
Reply:3x+2y=6
Reply:Wouldn't it = 6? 2y + 3x=6

Last poster i think forgot to mult 3 by 2 as well.

Here... another answer off I'll step it off:

-3/2X +3 = Y

(2)(-3/2X+3)=(2)(Y)

-3X+6 = 2Y

3X+2Y=6

Y=mX + B is 'slope-intercept' form

I posted a good source for Slope-intercept form, Point-Slope Form, and Standard form... last edit i promise :)

Response to additional info:

(1) ax+by+c= 0 is different than (2) ax+by=c because you'd have to subtract c from both sides of equation (2) to get equation (1). In your example problem just subtract 6 from both sides to get 3x+2y-6=0 [a=3,b=2,c=6]

Calculate the standard free energy change (kJ/mole) from the standard free energies of formation.?

For the reaction whose reactants and products are:

reactants: C (graphite) H2O (l)

products: CH3COOH (l)

calculate the standard free energy change (kJ/mole) from the standard free energies of formation.

The answer depends on how you balance the equation.

For this question balance the equation using the smallest ratio of WHOLE numbers.

Calculate the standard free energy change (kJ/mole) from the standard free energies of formation.?
Lancenigo di Villorba (TV), Italy

Since you start from GRAPHITE, I assign to Carbon the Standard values related to this allotropic form. As you know, International Committe stated that graphite as the Standard among the allotropic form of Carbon,

e.g. G°f,graphite = 0.00 J /mol.

Scientific literature report the other values that I need

G°f, water = -2.1E+7 J / mol

G°f, acetic acid = -4.8E+7 J / mol

Now, I calculate the "Gibbs Energy" 's Change :

2 C(graphite) + 2 H2O(l) ---%26gt; CH3COOH(l)

DeltaG° = G°f,acetic acid - 2 * (G°f, graphite + G°f,water) =

= -6.0E+6 J /mol

I hope this helps you.

Standard emf?
It's just the emf of the reduction side - emf of the oxidation side.

For the cell above Sn is oxidised and Cu2+ is reduced, so go look up the values on your standard potential tables.

Equations in standard form?

standard form of a line is ax+by+c=0, a is positive. put the equation in standard form.

a)2/3x=y-1/6

b)-1/5x=2/3-1/15y

how do i do this? i would appreciate an explanation and all work. thanks

Equations in standard form?
a)2/3x=y-1/6

first get rid of all fractions. Mult by lcd, 6

4x=6y-1 now get the y term on the same side as the x term

4x-6y=-1

------------------------------

b)-1/5x=2/3-1/15y mult by 15

-3x = 10 -y

-3x +y=10

now mult by -1 because the x term should have a positive coefficient

3x-y=-10

How do you solve a standard normal value?

can anyone solve this and tell me how you solved it? THANK YOU

Let z be a standard normal random variable. Determine the Value of C

P(-C%26lt; Z%26lt; C)=.9312

both less than signs are suppose to be less than or equal to..I couldn't put a line under the signs.

How do you solve a standard normal value?
A "standard" normal value just means that the mean is 0 and the standard deviation is 1. You can adjust any normal distribution by subtracting the mean and dividing by the std. dev.

z = (x - mu)/sigma

Since the distribution is symmetric about 0, the probability of being %26gt; - C is the same as being %26lt; C, so you only need to find P( Z %26lt; C ) = .4656. You look up the value .4656 in a table and find out the value for C.

It can be a little tricky looking it up. You may need to play around with the 0.9312 some more, but that's the idea. :-). Just keep in mind the picture of what you're trying to find. The values of +/- C that accounts for 93.12% of the normal distribution.

There are estates like these all over the country and real people actually have to live on them. It's easy to forget they even exist or that the residents are human beings and not some weird sub-species.

The government sold us all down the river when they changed from "council housing" to "housing association" and they are doing next to nothing to solve the problems they've caused.

I blame the Tories and Thatcher. They sold off all the council house stock in the first place and then refused to build more until it was too late.

Help with standard form?

i know that standard form in linear equations is ;Ax+By=C

what does "A" stand for?

what does "X" stand for?

what does "B" stand for?

what does "y" stand for?

what does "C" stand for?

plz give answers that will help me understand this formula.

Help with standard form?
A, B, and C, are all co-efficients...

x and y are both variables...

like...

If say you had

5x+7y=12

A=5

x=x

B=7

y=y

C=12

If you notice.. The x and y are both lowercase.. and variables are always lowercase.
Reply:A=First number

X=First Variable

B=Second Number

Y=Second Variable

C= the result of the equation
Reply:Okay first x and y are horizontal and vertical outcomes respectively for A it is the lead coefficient for x, B=lead coefficient for y and C= the constant in the formula, the constant when solved for y=mx+b this is in slope intercept form where m= rise/run and b= the y intercpt on the verical axis of a graph. Hope this helps you out.
Reply:In the Standard form A, B, and C are constants. X and Y are variables.

For example the equation 4x -2y = 8 we can subtract 8 from each side and the equation becomes

4x -2y - 8 = 0

for this equation A= 4, B = 2. and C =8

while x and y are the variables.

Calculate the standard enthalpy of formation for diamond, given?

Calculate the standard enthalpy of formation for diamond, given that

C(graphite) + O2(g) → CO2(g) ΔH0 = –393.5 kJ/mol

C(diamond) + O2(g) → CO2(g) ΔH0 = –395.4 kJ/mol

Is it 1.9 or -1.9 and why?

Calculate the standard enthalpy of formation for diamond, given?
It has to be 1.9 kJ/mol.

The reason being, you are looking for the enthalpy of FORMATION of DIAMOND.

So when you apply Hess' Law, the second equation MUST be flipped so you get this equation...remember when you reverse the reaction, you must change the sign of the enthalpy (H).

CO2(gas) -%26gt; C(diamond) + O2(gas) , H=+395.4 kJ/mol

Then you retain your graphite equation and add these two equations together.

C(graphite) + O2(g) -%26gt; CO2 (g) , H = -393.5 kJ/mol

CO2(g) -%26gt; C(diamond) + O2(g) , H = +395.4 kJ/mol

The end result when you add these two together is this equation...note that the CO2 and O2 gas drops out of the equation:

C(graphite) --%26gt; C(diamond) , H = -393.5 + 395.4 = +1.9 KJ/mol

Remember, you flipped the second equation and not the first because you wanted to FORM , i.e. you are looking for the enthalpy of FORMATION, of C(diamond)
Reply:If you reverse the second reaction, then add the two togther, the CO2 and O2 cancel out

C (graphite) + O2 (g) ---%26gt; CO2 (g)

CO2 (g) ----%26gt; C (diamond) + O2 (g)

and you get

C(graphite) ---%26gt; C(diamond)

By Hess's Law, you change the sign of the enthalpy for the second reaction (because you reversed it), and add it to the enthalpy of the first.

So, the enthalpy change is -393.5 kJ/mol + (+395.4 kJ/mol)

or +1.9 kJ/mol.

What am i missing in this quadratic standard form q?

the prob is:

3+2x(x-2)=x^2

they want to know what a, b, and c are if i write it out in standard Quad form..... do i have to solve it first?

any help please!

What am i missing in this quadratic standard form q?
3 + 2x(x - 2) = x^2

3 + 2x^2 - 4x = x^2 {distribute the 2x}

x^2 - 4x + 3 = 0 {subtract x^2 from both sides}

a = 1, b = -4, c = 3
Reply:Basically, you just have to write it in the Quadratic Form.

Quadratic form looks like this:

ax^2 + bx + c

So, for this equation,

3+2x(x-2)=x^2

3 + 2x^2 - 4x = x^2

2x^2 - x^2 - 4x + 3 = 0

x^2 - 4x + 3 = 0

So, a = 1, b = -4, and c = 3
Reply:3 + 2x² - 4x = x²

combine terms

2x² - x² - 4x + 3 = 0

x² - 4x + 3 = 0

a = 1, b = -4, c = 3
Reply:You need it in an unfactored form and equated to 0.

3 + 2x(x-2) = x^2

3 + x^2 - 4x = x^2

x^2 - 4x + 3 = 0

Then a=1, b=-4 and c=3

but now im stuck since i 4got how to turn into standard.........

Linear functions? standard form? help i 4got?
first, bring the x term over the left hand side

-1/4x + y = 3/4

then multiply through by the common denominator (in this case, it's 4). you get:

-x + 4y = 3

done
Reply:the slope is (1/4)

general form is:

1/4(x-(-3))=(y-0)

Standard Form Math Help, please.?

Can someone please explain how to do standard form. I know it's ax+by=c, but what does a, and b stand for??

Write the standard form of an equation of the line that passes through the following two points.

(-1, -7) (1,3)

I don't understand it. For the x/y part, can you use any of the pair of #'s. Someone explain!

:) Thanks. Best answer--%26gt; 10 points

Standard Form Math Help, please.?
The whole idea is to have *any* point on the line satisfay teh equation. a and b are the coefficients that form the line's slope (-a/b).

To solve the problem, put the two points into the two-point formula in your textbook. That gives you one form of the line's equation. Use your basic algebra to work this into standard form.

For instance, let's do this for a line passing through (1, 1) and (3, 4):

Two point form:

(y-y1) = m(x-x1), where m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

Plugging in the point coordinates:

(y-1) = (4-1)/(3-1) * (x-1)

y-1 = 4/3 (x-1)

3(y-1) = 4(x-1)

3y - 3 = 4x -4

-4x + 3y = -1

-- OR --

4x - 3y = 1

There's the line in standard form.

Now it's your turn.
Reply:OMG so easy im in 8th grade and we learned this just like 1 1/2 month ago!

okay so standard form is ax+b=c (i even got math notes!)

and you have (-1,-7) and (1,3)

so first find the slope

so do y2-y1

---------

x2-x1

so its gonna be 3+7

-----

1+1

so its 10 over 2 which is 5

so you have the slope as 5

now ax+by=c

slope is a

so its 5x + ...... ahh it's hard doing this on the computer... lol im too tired, sorry i tried, well at least i helped

Why do some teams' lineups not follow the standard format?

I see this a lot in college, but some teams will use any number of guards or forwards in a game (GGGGF/C, GGGFF/C, GFFFC, etc.) instead of going with the standard GGFFC format. I've always found this strange.

Why do some teams' lineups not follow the standard format?
Ohio State uses 3 guards, a forward and a center. Its been working for them all year. That is just their starting lineup, subs are in pretty quickly. Its all about having your best 5 on the floor. Do you REALY need more than 1 forward with Greg Oden is in the middle? Other times they have only 2 guards, 2 forwards, and a center. Matchups baby (stolen from Dick Vitale). With a big guy in the middle and a forward on backup, 3 shooters can pass around the perimiter for 30 seconds (in college) and shoot or find the open big guy in the middle.
Reply:ok..is this a college question?if so it relates to the talent[or lack of] you may have in your lineup or the opponents lineup...the style of play..fastbreak..low post.. what conference you are in..a center dominated/guards and forwards/is it a conf where 6'8 guys are big/6'4 guys playing power forward/full court press where you have to rotate alot of guys in/out..there is nothing strange about the 'non standard' lineup..its about playing to strengths/weaknesses.....
Reply:Nellie actually often uses a Point Power Forward in Dirk Nowitski.
Reply:Coaches like Don Nelson and Mike D'Antoni like to play uptempo basketball where they are always pushing the ball up and scoring a lot. A typical GGFFC lineup is slower compared to a GGGFC lineup so the GGGFC lineup works to their advantage.

Write A Quadratic Function 2x^2 -4x - 7 In Standard Form????
You're probably expected to do this by completing the square

f(x) = 2x^2 - 4x - 7

f(x) = 2(x^2 - 2x + ___) - 7 - ____ you will complete the square by adding in [1/2 (-2)]^2inside the group and then subtracting it right back out at the end, times the 2 from front of the group.

f(x)=2(x^2 - 2x + 1) - 7 - 2(1)

f(x) = 2(x-1)^2 -9 after factoring the group and simplifying

Vertex (1, -9)

x-intercepts: set 2x^2 - 2x -7 = 0 and solve by using the quadratic formula.
Reply:vertex = (-b/2a, f(-b/2a))

Vertex To Standard Form And Rotation Questions?
Hi,

1. Given part of an equation of a parabola in vertex form as y = a(x - 8)² - 2. If this graph passes through the point (4, 6), what is the value of ‘c’ value when the equation is written in standard form?

If (4,6) is a point on y = a(x - 8)² - 2, we can substitute 4 for x and 6 for y to solve for the value of "a".

y = a(x - 8)² - 2

6 = a(4 - 8)² - 2

6 = a(-4)² - 2

8 = a(-4)²

8 = 16a

½ = a

So the equation is y = ½(x - 8)² - 2

y = ½(x² - 16x + 64) - 2

y = ½x² - 8x + 32 - 2

y = ½x² - 8x + 30 %26lt;== The value of "c" is 30.

2. If the coordinates of B are (2, -3), what are the coordinates of B', the image of B after R90° ° ry-axis (B)?

If I understand your question, the point (2,-3) is to be rotated 90° counterclockwise and then reflected across the y axis.

If you had (2,-3) graphed and put a pencil point at the origin, you could rotate the graph 90° clockwise so the positive x axis would become the positive y axis. The new position of B in the first quadrant would be (3,2). If that point was then reflected across the y axis, it would be located at (-3,2). Consequently, B' would be (-3,2) which is answer B.

A. (-2, -3)

B. (-3, 2) %26lt;== answer

C. (-3, -2)

D. (3, -2)

I hope that helps!! :-)

Given bond energies O-H 463kJ,C-H 413kJ,C-O 360kJ,C-C 348kJ,Calc heat of formation of ethyl alcohol from....?

Given the following bond energies O - H 463kJ, C - H 413kJ, C - O 360kJ, C - C 348kJ, Calculate the heat of formation of ethyl alcohol from the monoatomic gaseous elements. Hence calculate the heat of formation of ethyl alcohol from the elements in theirs standard states. The heats of atomization of C, H and O are 713, 432 and 495kJ respectively.

Given bond energies O-H 463kJ,C-H 413kJ,C-O 360kJ,C-C 348kJ,Calc heat of formation of ethyl alcohol from....?
If the reactants are the elements in their standard states, then the equation looks like this:

2 C + 3 H2 + 1/2 O2 ==%26gt; CH3CH2OH

The part about "monoatomic gaseous elements" has me confused, since H2 and O2 are diatomic in their standard states.

Nevertheless, you are forming the following bonds

5 C-H bonds (5 x 413)

1 C-C bond (348)

1 C-O bond (360)

1 H-O bond (463)

Grand total of energy released = 3236 kJ

Go back to the original equation:

2 C + 3 H2 + 1/2 O2 ==%26gt; CH3CH2OH

713 kJ is required to atomize carbon (713 x 2)

432 kJ is required to break the H-H bond (432 x 3)

495 kJ is required to break the O=O bond (495 x 1/2)

Grand total of energy absorbed = 2970 kJ

Grand total of energy released = 3236 kJ

Overall energy change = -266 kJ

Hope that's right!

Algebra Standard Form Help!?

is 2x+3y+7=c(i don't remember the vlaue) in standard form or no? when something is in s.f. i know it is ax+by=c but what is 7?

Algebra Standard Form Help!?
you subtract seven from the left and add it to the right (whatever your c value is) and then it is in the standard form you mentioned. :)
Reply:I believe the equation should read 2x+3y+7=0, not c.

If we do that, 2x+3y+7=0 is in standard form. The 7

is now the "c" in ax+by +c=0, and it is called the constant term.

Please note that ax+by+c=0 and ax+by=c are

exactly the same thing when c is a - number.
Reply:if you -7 from both sides it will b in the form ax+by=c if c was a number (is the bit in brackets saying you don't remember the value for c?)
Reply:standard form is ax(squared)+bx+c=o or 5·432 × 103(exponential)
Reply:7 is C. C represents any number not attached to an x or y.

Changing from vertex form to standard form (Algebra) please help?

vertex form is a(x - h)^2 + k

Standard from is y= ax^2 + bx + c

if my equations are

1.) f(x)= -2(x - 1)^2 + 10

2.) f(x)= 2x^2 - 8

(how do i put this in standard form?)

Changing from vertex form to standard form (Algebra) please help?
f(x)= -2(x - 1)^2 + 10

y = -2(x - 1)^2 + 10

y = -2(x^2 - 2 x + 1) + 10

y = -2 x^2 + 4x - 2 + 10

y = -2 x^2 + 4x + 8

f(x)= 2x^2 - 8

y = 2x^2 + 0x - 8
Reply:expand and group like terms.

I'll do the first one

-2(x-1)^2 + 10

=(-2x - 1)^2 + 10

=(-2x-1)(-2x-1) + 10

= 4x^2 +2x +2x +1 +10

= 4x^2 +4x + 11

Given two means with respective standard deviations, how do you calculate standard deviation of the quotient?

i.e. (A+-a)/(B+-b) = C+-c How do I calculate c? As far as I know pooling the standard deviations isn't what I'm after. Thanks.

Given two means with respective standard deviations, how do you calculate standard deviation of the quotient?
Sorry, It's impossible...

it depends of values.
Reply:Standard Deviation. A large number of trials in the measurement of a particular quantity will result in a "normal" distribution. 68 % of the values will be within one "standard deviation" of the average. 95 % will be within two "standard deviations" of the average. For the relatively small number of trials normally done in the laboratory, the "estimated standard deviation" can be calculated as shown on page 7 of your lab manual.

You should read your instruction book to see how to calculate standard deviations on your calculator.

SIGNIFICANCE: If a measurement is more than 3 standard deviations from another measurement, the difference is significant. If the values are within 2 standard deviations, the difference is not significant.

To calculate averages and standard deviations using the spreadsheet EXCEL the formulae are =AVERAGE(A1:A3) and =STDEV(A1:A3) where A1 and A3 are the first and last cell in the column to be averaged.

Standard deviations and arithmetic calculations: For two numbers, A and B, with standard deviations, a and b, you can calculate the standard deviation of the SUM or DIFFERENCE as follows:

(A ± a) + (B ± b) = (C ± c)

A + B = C and c = sqrt( a2 + b2 ) where sqrt is the square root in EXCEL the formula is =SQRT()

You can calculate the standard deviation of the PRODUCT or QUOTIENT as follows:

(A ± a) * (B ± b) / (C ± c) = (D ± d) where * indicates multiplication (as in EXCEL)

A * B / C = D and d = D * sqrt ((a/A)2 + (b/B)2 + (c/C)2}

Standard deviations and significant figures:

The standard deviation provides an estimate of how well you know a particular measurement. It is, however, an estimate. The standard deviation should be expressed to ONE significant figure (unless the number is between 11 and 19 (times some power of ten, in which case you can use two significant figures. The number modified by the significant figure should be expressed to AGREE IN PLACE with the standard deviation. For example, a value resulting from a spreadsheet calculation of an average and standard deviation might be 10.1298 ± 0.2595. This should be expressed as

10.1 ± 0.3 or 10.1 (0.3) where the number in parenthesis is taken to be the estimated standard deviation. The estimate indicates that the value is only known to within three tenths of a unit of measurement. The figures beyond the tenths place, are NOT SIGNIFICANT.

VERY LOW standard deviations: Any measured number is assumed to have some uncertainty in the measurement. If your calculated standard deviation is LESS THAN 1 in the last significant figure as determined by using the rules on page A15-17 of the text by Zumdahl, ROUND-UP to 1. For example, 2.34 ± 0.0002 would be expressed as 2.34 ± 0.01.

Reply:If you have the actual observations, you can take the quotient of each observation and compute the SD for the ratio.

Var(x+y)= Var(x)+Var(y) if x and y are independent. Here, you're talking about var(x/y) and cannot be computed.

Why can't ax^2+bx+c=0 be rearranged into an equation to solve for a, b , c?

For a simple quadratic equation, let's say in standard for is simply

ax^2+bx+c=0. Why cannot this be rearranged to solve for a, b , or c

when you have 2 values such as "a" and "b", "a" and "c", or "b"

and "c".

Why doesn't the equation hold true when you are trying to rearrange

to solve for missing variables?!

x= -b+- sqrt b^2-4ac / 2a that is for solving x

Why doesn't it hold true if you do the following for other

variables:

To solve for b: b= -ax^2+c / x

To solve for a: bx+c / x^2

to solve for c: c= -ax^2-bx

Why can't ax^2+bx+c=0 be rearranged into an equation to solve for a, b , c?
for clarity of discussion, let's call "x" a variable, and "a", "b", "c" parameters. your question can be restated as:

given ax^2+bx+c=0 and any 2 parameters, plus the zeros, find the 3rd parameter.

let's examine the 3 cases.

but first recall that f(x)=ax^2+bx+c represents a parabola

(or for the degenerate cases, a line or a point). the parameters specify the characteristics of the curve (location, orientation, shape).

case 1: b,c,x known

ax^2+bx+c=0

we can subtract bx+c

ax^2=-bx-c

in the general case, x could be zero and therefore we cannot divide,

{standby, i'll try to finish this later -- got called away}
Reply:a, b, and c are NOT variables in a quadratic equation. x and y are the ONLY variables. a, b, and c represent CONSTANTS. Until all three constants are known, you DON'T have a quadratic equation.
Reply:You can solve for a,b,c if you have three points of the equation.

Since y = ax^2 + bx + c, you could plug the x and y values into the equation, and get three seperate equations where you could use a matrix to solve for the values of a, b, c.

I don't know if that really answers your question mainly b/c I don't fully understand your question. :/
Reply:they are constants not variables and you could replace them with variables and solve for them but then you would be solving an equation with more than one variable and it would be much more complicated, most likely with multiple solutions

a) 10

b) 9

c) 3

d) 1

Standard devviation question, please HELP?
When a normal variable is quoted as N(m,s^2) then the first figure is the mean and the second is the variance usually given as standard deviation squared. You should now be able to work out the answer yourself.

You have more than one area in which the user enters a choice, If you are asking how do you end your program at a point in which the user has entered invalid information,

switch your

if (choice %26lt;=0 || choice %26gt;=5)

cout %26lt;%26lt; "You did not choose a correct number please try again." %26lt;%26lt; endl;

To:

if(choice %26lt;=0 || choice %26gt;= 5)

{

cout %26lt;%26lt; "You entered invalid information" %26lt;%26lt; endl;

return 0;

}

The bottom switch statement you would add:

default:

cout %26lt;%26lt; "You entered invaid number" %26lt;%26lt; endl;

return 0;

Anytime you return from main, the program is over.
Reply:first of all you need a default case in your switch down at the bottom, but what statement are you talking about?

Standard enthalpy?

The mean bond enthalpy for the C - H bond is 412 kJ mol-1. Εstimate the standard enthalpy of methane, gas.

ΔHf0[C,g] = 717 kJ mol-1 and ΔH[H-H] = 436 kJ mol-1.

Standard enthalpy?
Well simply, Methane gas (CH4) has four C-H bonds. If there is 412 kJ of energy in each, there is 412 x 4 over all. (1648 kJ mol-1)

I'm having trouble running my C++ program after i compile and link it?

I just start programing in the C language. I Use Microsoft developer studio standard (if there something better, add that, though i can't choose you as best answer unless you answer my actual question). I'm also learning from "C for dummies".

well, enough of that, I made my first program. all it does is say "goodbye crule world" (in contradicts the "hello world" prgram.) So I compiled and linked my .C file into a .exe file. when i open the source file and go to "run GOODBYE.EXE" it works fine. but when i got to my documents and open the .EXE file there, it breifly opens and then closes. and i didn't push the any key (which my book says is enter :) )

so, help me out here, why doesn't it stay?

I'm having trouble running my C++ program after i compile and link it?
Ok, first you need to get your terminology right. This is computer programming and computer science: precision is important. C++ and C are different. I’m assuming you’re are writing a C program. Not a C++ program. Second, there’s no such thing as Developer Studio. I’m assuming you are using Visual Studio? You also should mention the version. It’s important. VS 2005? VS 2003? VC++ 6? Don’t skimp on details.

Next, don’t use C for dummies. Think about it for a moment. If you find C difficult, you need to pick a different programming language. C is naturally complex. It’s a low level language, so you don’t have much logical abstraction. And it has quirks. It is difficult. The book I recommend is K %26amp; R’s The C Programming Language. Only that. It is the de facto book on C, and you should get that. If you find C too difficult to start with, pick a different language, please.

Now, onto the actual program. The program you created is what is known as a console program. If you go to start-%26gt;run-%26gt;”cmd”, you get a console or command line. You should learn to run programs from there. As a beginner, it’s acceptable to use a kludge: #include %26lt;stdio.h%26gt; and at the end of the main, add getchar();
Reply:The program runs. Here's the deal windows runs fast enough that it will open a cmd windows display "goodbuy crule world" read the return 0; in your code and exit all in about the time it takes to blink! ( I've had the same problem before ). Try adding this to the end of your code.

#include %26lt;iostream%26gt;

using namespace std;

cout %26lt;%26lt; "enter any number to exit /t" %26lt;%26lt; endl;

int completely_useless_num;

cin %26gt;%26gt; completely_useless_num;

return 0;

// happy coding
Reply:When you run a console program from the windows explorer, it opens a console, runs your program, and then the console closes as soon as your program finishes. Whereas, when you run it in visual studio, the compiler doesn't close the console window right away, and waits for your input first.

There are two ways to get around this.

One way is to run your program from the command line instead of the from the explorer. If you know how to use the dos command line, this is your easiest option.

The second way is to make your program pause before terminating. To do so, add the following line at the end of main():

cin.get();
Reply:lol You know that C++ and C are two different languages right? I could help you in C++ but C might have a different way of doing it.

before the last return statement put

cin.get();

cin.get();

It'll pause the screen, waiting for input from the user (clicking any button).

I put 2 down b/c 1 doesn't always work. This is the simplest way I've found to do it. And I'm sorry if that doesn't help in C, I know how frustrating programming can be.
Reply:Windows automatically closes any console program launched from the file browser as soon as it is finished running. So once your program prints its message, there's no more code, it exits, and Windows closes it. This only takes a millisecond or so to process, much too fast for a human being to read.

Just add this line:

getchar();

Put it in your program right under your printf() statement. This will cause the program to wait for one character of input. It doesn't do anything with the input since the function isn't assigned to any variable. But it will wait, as long as it takes, to get at least one character from the user. Until it gets that, it won't exit.

What is a C-Visit Visa?

What are the Visa classes........?

What is a C-Visit Visa?
It is a visitor's business visa, and gives a right to the person to visit trade fairs, conduct trade agreements, sign the contracts. But does not give the right to set up a business or get an employment.

For example, if a company invited someone to visit them in the UK for talks or to discuss order specification, that visitor would get a C type visa.

How do you feel about C's?

I am a teacher. I was also a teacher's kid...both of my parents were teachers. The expectation in my household was that you brought home no less than a B. I never did. I said that when I had my own children I would have that same expectation.

Well I have a step-son and he brought home a C in Science. He had an A last grading period. I felt there is no reason for him to have a C with a teacher in the house. I have access to all the curriculum materials needed since he attends the same school system in which I teach.

I reward him with money for his grades. It is a bit hard to compete with the weekly Dave and Buster's trip his father takes him to. My money for grades does not seem to be much of an incentive since his father gives him whatever he wants in the way of money and special activities.

What are your feelings about C's and raising the standards for a child with regard to school?

How do you feel about C's?
A "C" is considered average, so I can't imagine being horribly upset with a child for being considered average. Now a "D" or an "F"..... it was never OK in my household either. If he's doing his best though.... just because you think that he should be grasping it doesn't mean that he is. Since you are a teacher and have access to his curriculum, perhaps you could help tutor him!

You need to talk to your step-son about the importance of grades. He needs to understand that the better his grades, the better college he'll be able to attend and the better career he'll be able to accomplish. You can't be lawyer with "C's" all through school, you know what I mean? Just have a mature conversation with him. (You never mentioned his age, but still.... a mature conversation never hurt anyone.)

I wouldn't worry about a punishment nor a reward. He's obviously to the point that rewards don't mean anything anymore. It may be a time to have a talk with your husband about the situation as well. No matter what you say or do, if you and his father aren't on the same page, then nothing will work.
Reply:It's not about the grade, it's about the effort %26amp; whether he's comprehending the lesson.

Even with a teacher in the house, it sounds like he doesn't understand the material he's being taught. Or, maybe he's not putting the effort into turning in the work %26amp; studying.

If he is trying to learn; If he's turning in his work; If he's using the resources available to him, but still doesn't understand the material well enough to impress the teacher %26amp; get a better grade, then there's not much more he can do, is there?

What you really want to concentrate on, though, is not 'getting his grades up', but 'making sure that he understands the material %26amp; has good study/homework habits'. If you're going to put an incentive on anything, it should be on his habits %26amp; his effort to understand the material (perhaps asking you to help him look at the subject in a way that he could better understand).
Reply:Is it a hard class? Is he working hard and just not getting it? Is he overwhelmed with extracurriculars or other things that might keep him from studying? Was he sick and missed some school? Is there some basic concept in the class that he just didn't get? Does he have a learning disability? In those cases, a C represents his best effort and I wouldn't penalize him, but I would help him.

Is he not doing homework because he's goofing off? Did he fail to hand in a critical paper? Did he get caught cheating and hence get a low grade on something? Is he passing notes to a girlfriend or daydreaming in the middle of class? Did he miss class for a non-legitimate reason? Has he just decided he doesn't care about science? If these are the reasons, the C represents a failure of best effort, and I'd work on motivating him to work harder.

I'm not a believer in cash for grades -- I think it encourages cheating and also discourages taking hard classes. It can also just be unfair: A C in an AP class with a hard teacher and a difficult load otherwise might be equivalent in terms of the child's effort to an A in an easy mainstream class with an easy load.

If you're not sure why your son had a hard time this time around, I'd have a conference with the teacher. If it's really a failure of effort, I'd drop some extra-curriculars or limit some playtime to make room for more studying, have a talk with him about what's going on, check that his homework is done every night, etc.
Reply:As a teacher you should know that your child is going through a rather rough transition from being "elementary" to "secondary" which freaks out the best of the kids.

Now as for C's. I find grades rarely indicative of the amount learned at school. The report card is meaningless. If my child brings home an F on a paper, we go through the paper to see where the problem is. On more than one occasion I have found that it is the lack of understanding by the teacher of the material presented rather than mistakes made by my child. Also if my child brings home an A, we go through the paper to make sure that the information was 'learned' and not 'memorized'.

So my feelings are that C's are instruments the teachers use to evaluate their credibility as teachers. By handing out a C they are telling the child that they only did an average job of teaching the child the material.... which is as it should be.
Reply:it depends on the amount of effort, if a child gives it there all and get C's that's great, the reward for good grades is knowledge it seems ridicules to reward money, what if they are doing there best, what are you telling them there best is not good enough
Reply:Sometimes or a lot of times is the environment where child is growing, I mean you are a good person but you are the stepmom, they see and feel that, this could be a reason for his grades.

What I would do, besides keeping a good friendly relationship with him, I would sit down and find out what he doesn't understand....make jokes with him , like...oh! man, you have a private teacher at home only for you...that's because you are special...you are the king!! jajajjja! you know? as a joke, then study together, or also if he is not really with this, then find a tutor, so he can get the help he needs.

You know us, you, everyone.....we get sooo frustrate and soo idiots when we don't understand something.

Help him, he needs help on this subject or more, give him the helps he needs from you or anybody!!!!!!! who cares when help comes from....???? .and congratulate him for his efforts and progress...don't pay him. Give him benefits instead......like have a friends reunion at home without anybody interfering, or play videos with pizza, you know?

Good luck!!!!!
Reply:well i think that if he went from an A to a C, there is a different issue. Maybe they changed topics and he dosnt understand the new material as much, maybe he is feeling to much pressure at home being a family of teachers and all...Maybe there is something else happening at school and its interfering with his work....Talk with him, ask him if he wants you to give him some extra help at home, ask him if you can help with a different issue may be having... let him know you are there to talk...

Even though you are a teacher, dosnt mean that all the kids in the house should be getting A's and B's, some kids just are not capable and get the c's or c+'s.... as long as they are trying and doing there best than you cant be angry or make them feel bad.... give lots of positve and you should know that being a teacher
Reply:Honestly, I got horrible grades in highschool and my parents weren't upset because they knew I was trying my hardest, that's what counts.
Reply:as long as he does his best, dont be upset.
Reply:do not freak out over a c. How old is the kid?. Encourage him to reach potential, stop payment and encourage the child to understand that good grades = a better quality of life down the road.
Reply:I was a good student in high school, but I hardly put in any effort. Instead, I just coasted through until graduation.

Personally, I would rather see my child work really hard for a C than just float through the class and get an A. While good grades are certainly beneficial, work ethic and effort are more valuable.

Fortunately, we're at least a few years away from formal report cards and grades!
Reply:I guess you and your husband can only love a smart child? I think you are more insulted that how his grades make you and your husband look like morons. Get over it. He has to be responsible for his own actions. Your post sounds unloving. Try reading it...you say yourself that your husband is giving him PERSONAL attention, not money, and that your son reacts to that better than cash.

So chill on his grades, and spend some time with the boy.

Arrange the following in order of increasing strength of oxidizing agents (under standard conditions).?

Standard reduction potentials can be used to determine the relative oxidation and reduction strengths of reacting species. Use the table of standard reduction potentials in your text to answer this first question.

Find the equation in standard form?

Find the equation in standard form (y = ax^2 + bx + c) of the quadratic whose roots are 2 and 7 which passes through the point (5, -18). (also need: y= a(x-r1)(x-r2))

Find the equation in standard form?
If a quadratic has roots 2 and 7, then the equation of said quadratic will look like:

y = a(x-2)(x-7) (r1 and r2 represent root 1 and root 2)

Now plug in the point (5,-18) to solve for a:

-18 = a(5-2)(5-7)

I'll let you finish that.

Once you have a, simply FOIL the right hand side of the first equation I gave you and you'll have an equation in standard form. I'll leave that to you as well.
Reply:So first you have roots 2 and 7 which means

x = 2 and x = 7 or

x-2 = 0

x-7 = 0

now you also have a pt. (5, -18). 5 is x -18 is y

plug it into y = a (x-r1)(x-r2)

first you get

y = a (x-2) (x-7)

now the pt

-18 = a (5-2) (5-7)

-18 = a (3)(-2)

a = 3

final answer y = 3(x-2)(x-7)

you can expand the rest.
Reply:x^2-9x+14=y

Since the roots (answers) are 2 and 7, you can say y=(x-2)(x-7). Finish the multiplication, and get x2 -2x -7x +14 or x^2-9x+14.
Reply:Easy:

y = a(x - 2)(x - 7)

and (5, -18) satisfies this equation, so -18 = a(5 - 2)(5 - 7)

⇒ a = 3

So y = 3(x - 2)(x - 7) = 3x² - 27x + 42

Other than standard daily vitamins, what would you consider the most important supplements to take?

Meaning, other than just the standard daily vitamins, like A-B-C-D, etc, what would you consider the most important supplements to take daily? (i.e. fish oil, acidophilus, etc, etc...)

Other than standard daily vitamins, what would you consider the most important supplements to take?
It is true.

It's only Americans who believe in supplements.

A proper healthy diet means eating everything you need.

A vegetarian diet, based on fresh fruit, with plenty of green-leaved vegetables, some nuts and seeds, and pure water means that no supplements are necessary.

It's only eating foods which contain toxins that cause a need for additions to the diet.

If you avoid ALL processed foods, and all foods containing artificial colouring and preservatives, you are doing yourself a great favour.

I have NEVER ever taken a single supplement, and I haven't seen a doctor in 40 years.

Avoid vaccinations, and avoid non-natural medicines.

If your body needs something, it will tell you. Find a natural product, and add it to your diet occasionally.

If it comes in a packet or tin, or if its frozen, or manufactured in a factory, don't eat it.

Apart from the daily intake of proteins , carbohydrates , fats and vitamins , it is essential to have a positive outlook and excercise daily by walking - which is the best , being in tune with nature will lower your anger levels which are bad for the digestion of food...

Such intrinsic as well as extrinsic factors together combine to form a HEALTHY INDIVIDUAL - Physically and mentally .
Reply:That's a real thought-provoking question. For women I would say calcium (in a synergystic combination with magensium and Vitamin D) to prevent osteoporosis. Overall I'd say most people don't take enough Vitamin C to stay healthy - only enough to prevent deficiency diseases. 1000 mg/day is generally enough to prevent colds and flu, and some researchers claim that 6000 mg/day is a true anti-aging dosage.

Do I get to include one more? I'd agree with those who nominated fish oil (omega 3 fatty acids) - good for everything from rheumatoid arthritis to heart health to brain food.

One final note: the B-vitamin group is a complex. Taking only one (e.g. B6 or B12) potentially creates a deficiency of the others. Those who self-medicate, think about your choices!
Reply:I like to take flax seeds, acidophilus, chromium, lecithin, and antioxidants, and drink green tea.

Depends on what you need as an individual. Green tea seems to be good for all in either decaf or regular.

I like GNC vitamins never Centrum! as for the omegas in cod, eww thats why I do the flax seeds, LOL!
Reply:Iron, which most multivitamin pills do not contain enough of. Getting enough iron is important for maintaining energy and metabolism. You may not get enough in your diet, even if you do regularly consume meat and dark green veggies.

Another important suppliment that is often overlooked is protein. Getting enough protein not only maintains energy and metabolism, it helps stimulate weight loss. Eating lean meat or tofu may not be enough to satisfy your body's protein needs. Protein is not effectively absorbed in pill form. The best protein supplements come in the form of energy bars and high protein shakes. (I drink the shakes- they're not delicious, but they are effective.)

As far as food vitamins go, I get low on calcium and protein but I look for foods that have these when I feel like they are low .. .I dont think there's any set formula that works; and a daily multivitamin I think is unhealthy because you dont always need all that extra vitamin

I havent ever felt a need to take a non-vitamin supplement regularly; though I do occasionally need cranberry juice because it feels like I get full of bacteria somehow and the cranberry juice clears it out. In that way, I use it as a supplement but only about every other month or so. Kelp with iodine is a good one but only took this as a supplement for a short while also; I think my body holds onto nutrients pretty well so I just go through phases where I'll take this or that supplement for a short time. I went through a mushroom phase for the riboflavin, celery and something else (I dont remember what) for inositol; then I'll get times where I have to omit certain foods for awhile and then I can have them again, for ex wheat, dairy, also went through a time without corn, rice . .. everything is just short periods for me; I dont know why long periods of the same supplement works for others

All women especially are now being told to add a calcium supplement to their vitamin routine. Not only for the effect it has on bone loss, osteoporosis, but they are also finding that it works just as good as a hormone supplement during menopause. Also women who are or are trying to get pregnant should be taking it, because lets face it most people do not get their daily need of calcium, then add another life that needs it too.

Converting Standard to Vertex Form (Parabolas)?

Hi i would like to know how you convert a Standard Parabola (y = ax^2 +bx + c) equation into a Vertex Parabola Form (y = a(x-h)^2 +k)

Converting Standard to Vertex Form (Parabolas)?
y = ax^2 + bx + c

Your first step would be to factor "a" out of the first two terms.

y = a(x^2 + (b/a)x) + c

What you want to do is change what is currently in the brackets into a square binomial. This is accomplished by taking "half squared" of the coefficient of x, and adding this value within the brackets. By "half squared", I mean taking 1/2 of b/a, and then squaring it.

Calculation of "half squared" of b/a goes as follows:

a) Multiply by 1/2. 1/2 * b/a = b/2a

b) Square the numerator and denominator.

(b/[2a])^2 = (b^2)/[4a^2]

Now we add this value within the brackets.

y = a(x^2 + (b/a)x + (b^2)/[4a^2]) + c + ?

Note that I put the question mark there. This is because we added a new value in there, and we have to offset it because we're not allowed to add something to an equation without some sort of offsetting. Since we added (b^2)/(4a^2), we have to offset it; but remember, the actual value we added was [a * (b^2)/(4a^2)], or [ (b^2)/4a ] , so we have to SUBTRACT this value.

y = a(x^2 + (b/a)x + (b^2)/[4a^2]) + c - (b^2)/(4a)

Now, we can factor the now square binomial.

y = a(x + b/(2a))^2 + c - (b^2)/(4a)

And now we can put the last two terms under a common denominator.

y = a(x + b/(2a))^2 + [4ac -b^2]/[4a]

And that's the vertex form; note that

h = -b/2a, and

k = [4ac -b^2]/[4a]
Reply:in standard form, the vertex has x value = -b/2a. From that you can find the y value. You now have (h,k) in the vertex form.

Converting Standard to Vertex Form (Parabolas)?

Hi i would like to know how you convert a Standard Parabola (y = ax^2 +bx + c) equation into a Vertex Parabola Form (y = a(x-h)^2 +k)

Converting Standard to Vertex Form (Parabolas)?
when converting from standard to vertex form you have to use completing the square.

if you had the equation

y= -x^2+6x - 8

you want the coefficient of the x^2 term to equal one, so that

y= - (x^2 - 6x) - 8

then you take half of the coefficent of the x term and square it and add and subtract it within the parentheses

y= - (x^2 - 6x + 9 - 9) - 8

regroup terms

y= - (x^2-6x+9) - (-9) - 8

simplify

y= - (x-3)^2 +1

and that is vertex form y= -1 (x-3)^2 +1

where (3,-1) equals the vertex

Vertex form to standard form?

vertex form: y=a(x-h)^2+k

standard form: y=ax^2+bx+c

what do you do to vertex form to find b and c?

i really need to know

also i do'nt know what completing the square is

Vertex form to standard form?
completing the square is finding "c" in the standard form. Whhen they ask you to complete the square, they w ill just give you: y=ax^2 + bx. then you have to find "c". You do that by dividing "bx" by 2 then squaring it. For example you have" x^2 +10x=? so you take 10/2=5, then 5^2= 25. So you have completed the square. now you have: x^2 +10x + 25.

Viscosity index at 40 and 100 degree C?

why kinematic viscosity of oil(fuel or lubricating oil) is measured at 40 and 100 degree C.Is there any particular reason for measuring at these specific temperatures.Please explain as I already have read,at 100 degree C temperature the kinematic viscosity of standard oils are same but not able to understand what was the meaning of the statement.

Viscosity index at 40 and 100 degree C?
Viscocity and temperature relationship is exponential function

WHEN PLOTTED ON SEMI LOG PAPER THE GRAPH IS STRAIGHT LINE for all oils. To draw a viscocity vs temperature curve on semilog paper , the value of viscocity of the oil at two temperature are needed. Hence viscocity measurement at only two temperature is adequate . These two temperatures may be 40 and 100 deg. C as normal oil storage tank or maximum ambient temperature is around 40 deg. c and oil temperature rise of 60 deg.c is normally accepted values in running bearings or for mechanical atomisation of fuel oil under pressure.

kinematic viscocity = absolute viscocity/ densiity .

Putting actual values of a few standard oil at 100 geg. c you may check validity of what you have heard.
Reply:You want to check for the linearity of the curve of viscosity. You don't want the oil to be too viscous at a low temperature, and too low at high temperatures. Also, you want a linear curve that is as flat as possible, or as little a change from desired viscosity as temperature changes. Most fluids however are non-newtonian, and display a nonlinear viscosity index.

A line with a slope of 2 and passes a point (4, 1). Please write the equation for this line in standard form.?

(standard form is Ax + By = C)

A line with a slope of 2 and passes a point (4, 1). Please write the equation for this line in standard form.?
Well use point-slope form which is y-[y coordinate]=m(x-[x coordinate])

y-1=2(x-4)

distribute

y-1=2x-4

add 1 to each side

y=2x-3

collect variable terms on one side

y-2x=-3
Reply:I usually use y = mx + b as the standard form, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept (on the y-axis, where x = 0). If the slope is 2 and it passes through 4,1 it must also pass through 0, -7 (the slope is positive, so from 4,1 it would go left 4 and down 8 to cross the y axis). So the equation would read y = 2x - 7. In your standard form, that would be 2x - y = 7. Substitute your point (4,1) into that equation and it works. The first two answerers' equations do not work.
Reply:y=mx+b

y=2x+1..[this is the standard form]
Reply:Slope : 2 (4,1)

y= 2x+b

1= 2(4)+ b

1= 8+ b

b= -7

Solution: y = 2x + -7
