Does cost of uniform for work (assume its ruled work purposes only and not reimbursed) go on Schedule C as Other Expenses (line 27) or on Schedule A (even if itemized deductions not taken)?
In other words if the standard deduction is taken, can work uniforms be deducted on Schedule C?
ALSO (sorry one more)
cost of business license goes on schedule C (line 27) right?
Does cost of uniform for work go on Schedule C or Schedule A (even if itemized not taken)?
If the uniforms are for a business you own, then they would go on your schedule C for that business. And yes, the cost of a business license goes on schedule C
But if you are an employee, not the owner of the business, they go on your schedule A and you can only deduct them if you itemize.
Reply:If you have income you will be reporting on a Schedule C and you use "uniforms" to earn that income you would report that expense as a part of the amount on Line 27. Should your income come from W-2 type employee earnings you would normally take a deduction for "uniforms" on Form 2106 which will carry to line 21 on Schedule A. If you are using standard deductions (not itemizing) you would not be able to take a deduction for "uniforms" related to employee earnings. If your "uniforms" are used for both activities you would prorate the expense.
Reply:Expenses for work performed as an employee (a person who receives a W-2 form) can go only on Schedule A and cannot go on Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ.
Expenses for work performed as an independent contractor (a person who receives a 1099 form) can go on Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ, but not both, and cannot go on Schedule A.
Reply:It goes on Sch C if it relates to Sch C Income. Otherwise it would be an itemized deduction as an employee expense

Should the English Bulldog standard be changed?
I'm not against the bulldog, just think the standard should be changed so breeders don't continously breed for smushed faces, flab, and huge heads.
Problems:
1) It's extremely dangerous to allow standard bulldog bitches to naturally whelp because unlike nearly all other breeds, bulldogs have tremendous heads which require C-sections. The pup's head gets stuck in the birth canal, trapping other pups inside Mom.
2) Full of health problems. Skin problems, food allergies--what else? These are side effects of the smushed nose and wrinkles.
3) Does not seem to have a purpose. I know we shouldn't decide whether dogs should LIVE or not just whether or not they help us, but the bulldog does not really get or do anything through existence--they sit, sleep, and eat. They don't protect, they can't run/swim cuz of their massive heads, and they can't move as freely as other dogs cuz their heads weigh them down, literally.
So, should the breed standard be changed or not?
Should the English Bulldog standard be changed?
I would like to see that changed! Did you see the show Nature on PBS recently, it was a 2 part show about "Dogs that changed the world" and they addressed the issue of the bulldog's changed image. It was a great show and will probably be on again this month if you missed it!
Reply:Hone, are you in the Bulldog club of America or the country you live in? If not, why not? The parent clubs of various breeds are the organizations that decide what the standard reads. Standards are rarely changed and whenso, it is done by people extremely knowledgeable in the breed and for good, justified reasons. If you are an active member of the parent club and are knowledgeable in the breed and wish to get your parent club to address the breed standard, by all means, do so but to put it up as a silly question on a silly internet q/a forum to people who don't have a clue or care about the breed is just inane on face. How many Bulldogs have you taken through varoius performance venues? How many Bulldogs have you reared and finished in the breed ring and know that all that you say applies to them? I for one have only minimum association with the breed but have known obedience titled ones, finished dogs that can outmove many breeds even with their 'heads that weigh them down' :) Maybe your perception is based on quality dogs that are bred by concerned breeders that adhere to the breed standard and maybe it isn't, huh? I never noticed any Bulldogs in the breed ring dragging their heads or anything else around nor just 'sit, sleep and eat'ing :) Maybe your experience is a bit limited?
Reply:Absolutely NOT !!!
First I think you need to do a bit more research on the breed before posting .
1) C-sections are done for a number of reasons , c-sections are a relatively new procedure . Do you think this was done 100 years ago ?? How do you suppose they haven't become extinct ?? Free whelped ! Not because their heads are to big , but because the ***** tires . Also if the ***** should be carrying a water pup there is no way a Bulldog or any other dog for that matter could pass it.
2 ) I've owned , bred %26amp; showed Bulldogs for a number of years . The health issues you list above are not exclusive to bulldogs and are not because they are brachycephalic . Personally I haven't had any health related issues.
3 ) They were originally bred to bait bulls thus the name BULLDOG .
I'm sorry but unless you actually own one your pretty clueless. For the record I am a proud member of the Bulldog Club Of America and wouldn't trade them for any other breed
Reply:The standard IS being changed - the wrinkles resting on their noses is being bred out of the breed to aid their breathing, amongst others.
Reply:I thik something should be done, and not just for bulldgs, as other breeds have problems too. Animal health should come before arbitrary characteristics.

Standard Deviation Question.... & finding the test value?
A recent gasoline survey said that the national average gasoline price was $1.298 a gallon. It was felt that gasoline in Texas was significantly lower than the national average. A survey of 7 different suburbs in Dallas, Texas, found the average price of gasoline to be $1.192 a gallon with a standard deviation of $0.0436. What is the test value?
a. -4.38
b. -5.41
c. -6.19
d. -6.43
e. -7.59
f. -10.7
g. none of these
Standard Deviation Question.... %26amp; finding the test value?
hi,
test static t = x - mue / standard deviation * root n
x = $1.192 , mue = $1.298 , n = 7 , standard deviation = $0.0436
t = 1.192 - 1.298 / 0.0436 * root 7 =
- 6.43
option d .
if u still have any doubts or any problems to be solved contact me.

How does standard deviation std work?
ok, if a class is curved.....how does the standard deviation work? say, the std is 7.5, so does that mean 7.5 points above or below the average is C- and C+
please, someone who understands, let me know thnx!
How does standard deviation std work?
ok what is the mean score of the Test.
Lets say the Mean score is 50
The standard d is 7.5.
The +1 SD = 57.5
The -1 SD = 43.5
the scores that fall in that range make up scores of 68% of the students who took that test.
If you need more help email me. I am a teacher who has a masters in assessment. my email is the same as my yahoo ID
Good luck
Reply:itsgood2b is correct in describing the characteristics of the normal distribution, but your question seems to ask what the relationship is between the distribution and corresponding letter grades.
The determination of letter grades from the score distribution is arbitrary, but not capricious. Your teacher may assign grades as he or she sees fit.
One such scheme is to assign an A to scores 1 SD above Mean, a B from the Mean to +1 SD, a C from the Mean to -1 SD, a D from -1 SD to -2 SD, and an F below that. As you can tell, the teacher can be a "hard" or "easy" grader by selecting where the grades match the scores.
Since you will be discussing the above question with your teacher, be sure to ask about item analysis for the test. Best wishes.

Mean, Quartiles and Standard deviation?
A school system employs teachers at salaries between 30,000 and 60,000. The teachers' union and the school board are negotiating the form of next year's increase in the salary schedule. Suppose that every teacher is given a flat 1000 raise.
a) How much will the mean salary increase? Median salary?
b) Will a flat 1000 dollar raise increase the spread as measured by the distance between the quartiles? explain?
c) Will a flat 1000 dollar raise increase the spread as measured by the standard deviation of the salaries? Explain?
Mean, Quartiles and Standard deviation?
How much will the mean salary increase? Median salary?
well if there were 3 teachers then mean is
(a+b+c)/3
after pay rise its
(a+1000+b+1000+c+1000)/3
(a+b+c+3000)/3
(a+b+c)/3 + 1000
The mean goes up by 1000
The rankings dont change so the person being paid the median rate still gets paid the median rate (which obviously has gone up by 1000
b) Will a flat 1000 dollar raise increase the spread as measured by the distance between the quartiles? explain?
The spread will not change. IQR+UQ-LQ
after this is (UQ+1000)-(LQ+1000)=UQ-LQ
c) Will a flat 1000 dollar raise increase the spread as measured by the standard deviation of the salaries? Explain?
The SD is the average distance of each score from the mean, so on average scores are still the same distance from the mean so no it wont change.

A.C. vs fan ?
We have a on bedroom apartment and are trying to keep the electric bill down as well as electric usage for environmental reasons. We have central A.C. Is it cheaper to set the A.C. to a bearable temperature, such as 79 deg F, or keep a standard box fan on all the time?
A.C. vs fan ?
Fans do not cool, they circulate air (hot air). You get the sensation of cool because of moisture drying on your skin. A fan will be cheaper to run than a 110 volt AC. Central AC units are 220 volt and cheaper to run. Setting the temp at 78 will actually cool the rooms and probably be more comfortable than a few fans.
Reply:Do both, the fan will circulate the cool air and make the room cooler.I use my A/C with a fan all the time.Low cool and a fan is my theory.....
Reply:get an A.C. but put on the setting called Energy saver so it won't use as much.
Reply:Fan, even a couple of fans are cheaper than the ac!
Reply:Central air is much more efficient than dealing with fans. For one fans only move around hot air. You can set your AC to whatever temp you are comfortable with and it will maintain that temp. Frankly, 79 is a bit high. We set ours at 76. It keeps the moisture out of the air without freezing everyone out. We also have a 3300 sq. ft. home. We have not had a high electric bill yet.

Quadratic function in standard form from sets of points?
please help and explain! thanks youuu!
Find a quadratic function in standard form for each set of points.
1. (0, 3) (1. -4) (2, -9)
(all i know is that c=3, right?)
a. f(x)= x^2+27x + 3
b. f(x)= x^2 -27x + 3
c. f(x)= x^2 +8x -3
d. f(x)= x^2 -8x + 3
2. (0, -4) (1, 0) (2, 2)
a. f(x)= -2 x^2 +5x -4
b. f(x)= -x^2 -5x +4
c. f(x)= -x^2+5x -4
d. f(x)= -x^2 +5x +4
Quadratic function in standard form from sets of points?
They are multiple choice question, so you can substitute and check.
1. First points satisfies all euqtions
so check with (1, -4)
1 + 27 + 3 = 31 not equal to -4 so its not a
1 - 27 + 3 not equal to -4 so its not b
1 + 8 - 3 not equal to -4 so its not c
1 - 8 + 3 is equal to -4 so its d
So the answer is d. Now if you want you can chcek with the third point.
4 - 16 + 3 = -9 so now you are sure its d
2. substitue (0, -4) from this you know it cannot be b, d as they will result is f(0) = 4
so it has to be a, d
Substitute (1, 0) in a
-2 + 5 - 4 = -1 not equal to 0 so its not a
in c, -1 + 5 - 4 = 0 so its c
Answer is c
Find a quadratic function in standard form for each set of points.
1. (0, 3) (1. -4) (2, -9)
(all i know is that c=3, right?)
a. f(x)= x^2+27x + 3
b. f(x)= x^2 -27x + 3
c. f(x)= x^2 +8x -3
d. f(x)= x^2 -8x + 3
2. (0, -4) (1, 0) (2, 2)
a. f(x)= -2 x^2 +5x -4
b. f(x)= -x^2 -5x +4
c. f(x)= -x^2+5x -4
d. f(x)= -x^2 +5x +4
Quadratic function in standard form from sets of points?
They are multiple choice question, so you can substitute and check.
1. First points satisfies all euqtions
so check with (1, -4)
1 + 27 + 3 = 31 not equal to -4 so its not a
1 - 27 + 3 not equal to -4 so its not b
1 + 8 - 3 not equal to -4 so its not c
1 - 8 + 3 is equal to -4 so its d
So the answer is d. Now if you want you can chcek with the third point.
4 - 16 + 3 = -9 so now you are sure its d
2. substitue (0, -4) from this you know it cannot be b, d as they will result is f(0) = 4

Standard Deviation?
A teacher gave a 25 multiple choice question test. After giving the tests, she computed a mean and standard deviation of the scores. The standard deviation was 0. Based on this info:
a) all the students had the same score
b) she must have made a mistake
c)about half the scores were above the mean.
please explain!
Standard Deviation?
Standard deviation provides the intervals for a standard bell curve, which would give you the percent of people which got a certain score.
If the intervals on the bell curve were 0, all students would have the same score. Because of that, half of the scores could not be above the mean, since they all are the mean score, and while it is possible a mistake was made, all students getting the same score would be the correct answer
Reply:A, but probably B. If the SD was zero, the teacher could just look at the scores and know that!
Reply:SD = 0 is possible only if all the scores are the same. So, a is correct (although quite possibly b is also correct :) )

Standard potential of a battery?
A student was given a standard Fe(s) | Fe+2 (aq) half-cell and another half-cell containing an unknown metal M immersed in 1 M MNO3(aq). When these two half-cells were connected at 25 (degrees) C, the complete cell functioned as a galvanic cell with E = 1.24 V. The reaction was allowed to continue overnight and the two electrodes were weighted. The iron electrode was found to be lighter and the unknown metal electrode was heavier. What is the standard potential of the unknown M+/M couple?

Standard Deviation Problem below. Can anyone figure out the solution?
What is the 98% confidence interval for the standard deviation, sigma , of birth weights at County General Hospital, if the standard deviation of the last 22 babies born there was 1.8 pounds?
a. 1.20 %26lt; sigma %26lt; 2.02
b. 1.15 %26lt; sigma %26lt; 2.14
c. 1.10 %26lt; sigma %26lt;2.30

e. 1.28 %26lt; sigma %26lt; 2.91
f. 1.32 %26lt; sigma %26lt; 2.77
g. none of these
Standard Deviation Problem below. Can anyone figure out the solution?

I was thinking of the naive measured mean +/- standard error for means when I wrote that. But checking it out, in a million random trials of 22 generated normals with sigma 1.32, the measured "(n-1)/n" sample standard deviation was %26gt;= 1.8 about 0.98% of the time. For sigma 2.77 the meaured standard deviation was %26lt;= 1.8 about 0.97% of the time.
So the answer is (f), 1.32 %26lt; sigma %26lt; 2.77

A standard solution of sodium hydroxide can be used in a titration experiment to determine FW of unknown acid.
A common mistake is the failure to rinse the buret with the standard solution after the final water rinse but before measurements of volume of standard solution are taken. The mistake accounts for which results?
I. The volume of standard solution is reported too small.
II The volume of solute used to dissolve unknown acid is too small.
III. Number of moles of unknown acid is reported too large
a) I only
b) II and III only
c) III only
d) I and III only
e) I, II, and III
A standard solution of sodium hydroxide can be used in a titration experiment to determine FW of unknown acid.
After the final water rinse, there could be drops of water left in the biuret. Hence, when NaOH solution is poured into it to be measured, the drops of water causes the base to be diluted. So, the concentration of NaOH becomes smaller than what it should have been, which means that the no. of moles of base is lesser.
(I) cannot be the answer because the vol. is not affected.
(II) is also not the answer because the acid is not involved.
(III) is correct because as the concentration of NaOH is smaller (eg. 0.9mol/dm3) , a larger volume of NaOH is required to react with the acid. However, as it is thought that the concentration is higher (eg.1.0mol/dm3), it will be concluded that there is a larger no. of moles in the acid so that a larger volume of base will be needed for neutralisation.
so the answer is (c)

Calculating Standard Enthalpy of Formation?
The standard enthalpy of combustion for napthalene, C10H8 (s) is -5156.8 kj/mol. Using this data and the standard enthalpies of formation, delta Hf H2O (l) = -285.9 kj/mol ; CO2 (g) = -393.5 kj/mol, calculate the STANDARD ENTHALPY OF FORMATION (was bolded in the text) of C10H8 (s) in kj/mol.
a) 78.2kj b) 935.9kj c) -1065.4kj d) 3619.7kj e) -10235.4kj
i think it's A, but i'm not sure. can someone show me how to solve this?
Calculating Standard Enthalpy of Formation?
It looks like you got it. This is how it came out for me:
This is the reaction:
C10H8(s) + 12 O2(g) ® 10 CO2(g) + 4 H2O(l)
and Hc=(Summation of Hf of products)-(Summation of Hf of reactants)
So...
Hc (C10H8) = 10 Hf(CO2) + 4 Hf(H2O) – Hf(C10H8)
-5156.8kJ/mol=(10)(-393.5 kJ/mol)+(4)(-285.9kJ/mol0-Hf (C10H8)
-5156.8kJ/mol=(-3935 kJ/mol)+(-1143.6 kJ/mol)- Hf (C10H8)
-5156.8kJ/mol=(-5078.6)- Hf(C10H8)
-78.2kJ/mol=-Hf (C10H8)
78.2kJ/mol=Hf (C10H8)
I believe that's how it's done, but it's been a while since I've done that kind of problem, so it's probably not a terrible idea to double check with someone else.
