Mean, range and standard deviation help?

consider the following list of high temperature recorded in Nome, Alaska the last 12 days of december, 2003.

2, 4, -3, 8, -6, 7, 0, -4, 8, 7, 5, 3

a) what is the mean?

b) what is the range?

c) what is the standard deviation?

thank you

Mean, range and standard deviation help?
The mean is the average. So you need to add up all of the numbers and divide them by how many numbers there are.

The total of the numbers added together = 31 divide that by 12.

31/12=2.5833333333 (this is your mean)

Range= I THINK (am not 100% sure) is just the lowest and highest numbers. So your range for this would be -4 to 8.

You are alone on the standard deviation. I don't know that one off the top of my head. But I hope the other answers help. Have a great day! =)

b) 8 - (-6) = 14

c) The standard deviation is a measure of the spread of the 12 values with respect to their mean (in (a)). It is defined as the square root of the variance. Variance is the mean of the squared differences between the 12 values and their mean. For example, the first value is 2 and its difference from the mean is -0.58333.. . The square of that is 0.34027.. . Do the same for all 12 values. The mean of the squares is 21.74305.. . That's the variance. Square root it to get 4.663 (3 d.p.). That's the standard deviation.
