What are these new A/C sockets?

I've just got my house rewired. In addition to the standard, three square pin A/C sockets, the electrician has put in smaller, three round pin sockets. Does anyone know what these are? I've never seen them before.

What are these new A/C sockets?
They are 5A sockets which take 5A plugs and are soley used for lights, usually found in the bedrooms and intended for use with bed-side lights.
Reply:the round sockets used to be used for lighting circuits (you are living in the UK yeah?) though these kinda phased themselves out years ago.

they will still work mind, but are normally rated to specific appliances. Ask your electrician to confirm what he's done.
Reply:They are either 2a or 5a sockets, (as has been said) for table lamps to BS546. http://www.toolstation.com/index.html?co...

You'll need a plug to match. http://www.toolstation.com/search.html?s...
Reply:THESE ARE MOST LIKELY 5 AMP SOCKETS BUT COULD ALSO BE 2 AMP, EFECTIVELY THE SAME THING. THEY ARE SOCKETS FOR LIGHTING AND GENERALY CONTROLED LOCALY VIA A LIGHT SWITCH, FOR SIDE LAMPS ETC... THE REASON FOR THE ROUND PIN IS TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL USAGE IE PLUGING IN A HOOVER AS THESE SOCKETS ARE FUSED MUCH SMALLER THAN REGULAR SOCKETS 10A AS OPPOSED TO 20A . AND ARE NOT OUT DATED AS SUGGESTED BY A PREVIOUS .... BUT EXTREMELY POPULAR IN MODERN DAY HOUSE HOLDS..
Reply:They are 5Amp circuits and use a different plug so you dont plug say an Iron in by mistake. They are usually for Table lamps etc
Reply:Telephone connection I think !!!
