Mean, range, standard deviation?

consider the following list of high temperatures recorded in Nome, Alaska the last 12 days of December, 2003.

2, 4, -3, 8, -6, 7, 0, -4, 8, 7, 5, 3

a) what is the mean?

b) what is the range?

c) what is the standard deviation?

Mean, range, standard deviation?
a)

mean = (1/n) ∑x_i

= (1/12) (2+4-3+8-6+7+0-4+8+7+5+3)

= 2.583333

b)

range = max(x_i) - min(x_i)

= 8 - (-6)

= 14

c)

standard deviation = (1/(n-1)) ∑ (x_i - mean(x))^2

= 4.870287
Reply:mean is 2.583

range is 15
